Sažetak
The paper presents results and discussion related to 2-D modeling of shallow flow in partially filled primary water storage tanks characterized with complex geometry and only one-pipe connection between differently shaped tank chambers, whose internal geometry modifications are not possible. In order to optimize and balance the distribution of flow over large tank volumes with substantially different internal hydraulics, a series of 2-D shallow-flow simulations were performed with the main scope to provide hydrodynamically optimum solutions, ensuring water exchange with minimum number of “ dead” pockets and/or recirculation zones in both water storage chambers. Numerical experiments have revealed that certain hydraulic shortcomings of the system can efficiently be overcome only by controlling the level and the flow rate through the system, implying that significant changes of the existing operating philosophy are required in or-der to prevent potential water quality problems.
