Sažetak
Brachytherapy is the first radio therapeutic modality and the first non-surgical oncologic therapy. The major task of the treatment is to deliver cancerocidal doses of radiation to small volumes of tumor tissue, whilst producing minimal normal tissue toxicity. This could be achieved by the rigidity and stability of the applicators and by conforming the treatment tot the tumor. Therapy optimization is performed according to tumor stage, distribution and size, brachytherapy technique and dose, dose rate, and acute and long-term normal tissue effects.
