Sažetak
The paper presents some facts and reflections about position and future perspectives of forestry engineering in Central Europe. Following problems are comprised which are basic questions for forestry engineering: implementation of new modern technologies in the timber harvesting process, maintenance of forest roads and improvement of organization in forestry. Harvesting technologies are divided according to the terrain type (tractor terrain vice difficult terrain) and length of extracted wood. Modern technologies comprise different level of mechanized process. Good performance we can achieve with 1) specialization of machines for one phase or 2) with integration of different phases and operations in the single machine. Forest roads are necessary for normal intensive forest management and the multi-purpose use of forests. Maintenance of forest roads is necessary for their normal service and, at the same time, the cost of maintenance impacts on their profitability. For these reasons, particular attention should be paid to the regular maintenance of forest roads. Overview of organization in forestry in the paper is consist of following eight tasks – typical studies of forest work organization, GIS implementation, logistics, services to forest owners, production chain, man as an focal point of organization, organizing activities in forestry related activities and orientation of organization in forestry toward globalization. New technology for data collection, automation, robotics and ICT, now makes it possible to manage forest operations and to control the supply chain with a much higher efficiency than before. We do expect broader application of mechanized cutting, skidding with high efficiency systems in cable logging are and will be more and more computerized and interconnected using modern communications facilities.
