Sažetak
New research has shown that heat-treated glass ionomer cement (GIC) has a significantly lower retention rate than conventional composite resin. Fifty-six teeth were sealed with Helioseal F composite resin (Ivoclar Vivadent, Principality of Liechtenstein), and Fuji VII GIC (GC Europe, Belgium) was applied to 26 teeth with conditioning and 30 teeth without conditioning. The GIC was then heated for 40 s during the setting time and all sealants were evaluated 1 year after clinical service. The retention rate in the composite resin group was 80.4%, compared to the GIC groups with conditioning (30.8%) and without (26.7%). The researchers concluded that the heating procedure during setting of GIC sealants cannot be recommended as a treatment protocol in clinical practice.
