Sažetak
The mein purpose of this study was to find the cause of spontaneous cases of blindness in farm.reared chcikens and in chicken flocks of the sam hybrid line held in small family farms in Croatia during the last two years. In all the cases, chcikes were said to be sighted at hatch, but all of them lost their vision at the age of three weeks. In order to elucidate the main cause of the blindness, ophthalmnological, pathomorphological and microbiological investigations were performed in all the cases. As the pathomorphological and histopathological examinations revealed in all the cases the retinal degeneration very much alike to the pigmentous retinitis, the immunohistochemistry and transmissive electron microscopy investigations of the eyes were also performed.
