Sažetak
The potential use of honey as an indicator in element prospecting and environmental contamination studies has been investigated. The aim was to determinate the levels of chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and lead (Pb) in honey samples of various origin, sampled on three different locations of continental part of Croatia. All targets were analyzed by Energy Dispersive X – Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) using MINIPAL4 spectrometer. The contents of heavy metals in honey samples were found in the range of 1.20 – 1.30, 0.60 – 2.10, 5.00 – 10.10, 0.50 – 0.80, 0.70 – 3.10, 1.30 – 2.70, 0.20 – 0.40 ppm for Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn and Pb, respectively. According to the results of discriminate function analysis statistically significant difference was found among the samples of different origin with perfect separation of chestnut, acacia and multi flower honey. For the same origin statistically significant difference was also found among sampling localities. Concentrations of iron were the highest in chestnut honey, while lead was the least present element in multi flower Croatian honeys.
