Sažetak
The aim of this study was to enfold some experience of characterization and quality evaluation of common sage (Salvia officinalis L.) honey, deriving from Kvarner Bay islands and its littoral area. Several parameters were analyzed in order to gain the starting point of future characterization of this honey, very particular for this region. 19 representative samples were collected during the May and June of 2005. Locations of beehive sites planned for sage honey production were chosen according to data obtained from detailed vegetation maps of Croatia and personal experiences of chosen professional beekeepers. Hive sites were situated in the middle of the respective vegetation areas. Data dealing with physical and chemical, as well as with melissopalynological (microscopic) characteristics of sage honey samples analyzed are presented and evaluated. Due to its limited production area (Mediterranean part of Croatia), sage honey has been rarely studied. In the frame of more extended studies, these data could be very useful for future examination and characterization of sage honey.
