Sažetak
Abnormal blood rheology in pregnancy could be one of the mechanisms contributing to pregnancy-induced hypertension. In this study, 147 pregnant women at various stages of gestation were examined to determine the possible association of increased plasma viscosity and blood pressure elevation. In the first trimester, plasma viscosity (mPa.s) did not significantly change from the values in non-pregnant controls (1.69± 0.07 vs. 1.64± 0.09), whereas in the third trimester it was significantly higher than in the second trimester (1.74± 0.01 vs. 1.66± 0.06 ; p<0.05). In the third trimester, plasma viscosity significantly correlated with diastolic blood pressure (r=0.324, p<0.05). Colloid osmotic pressure (mm Hg) was significantly lower in the first, second and third trimester (27.04± 3.24, p<0.0001 ; 25.93± 1.91, p<0.0001 ; and 25.92± 2.19, p<0.0001, respectively) as compared to its level measured in non-pregnant women (33.69± 2.21). Plasma viscosity significantly correlated with colloid osmotic pressure in the third trimester (r=0.571, p<0.0001). Therefore, normal pregnancy in the third trimester was associated with increased plasma viscosity related to elevated diastolic pressure. Hence, increased plasma viscosity could be an early marker for the development of pregnancy-induced hypertension.
