Preparation, initiation and evaluation of compre- hensive programs for early treatment of diabetes and its complications, early detection and control, with self- monitoring of patients with diabetes and the aid of the community as a major component. Increased awareness of the general population and among health professionals of current possibilities and future needs in the prevention of diabetes and its complications. Organization of education on the approach and treatment of persons with diabetes of all ages and of their families, friends, coworkers and health care teams.
