Sažetak
The intestinal microbiota play a critical role in the pathogenesis of bowel inflammatory disease, and it appears that the use of combination rather than a single probiotic strain might be effective in alleviating symptoms. Female Golden Retriever 18 months old reported with food responsive diarrhoea was allocated to hypoallergenic diet with supplementation of 10 ml of probiotic coctail Lactobacillus acidophilus LA5 and Bifidobacterium lactis BB12 with two times daily. The Canine Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Activity Index (CIBDAI) that includes scoring of general attitude, appetite, faecal consistency, defecation frequency and vomitus as well as numbers of Lactobacillus sp. in faecal fluid was assessed at day 1 and 15, 22 and 32 days after the treatment. The blood was analysed and selected metabolites and haematological parameters were determined four times during the treatment. The CIBDAI decreased from severe at day 1 to clinically insignificant at day 32 (from score 14 to total score of 1). The Lactobacillus sp. number in faecal fluid increased from 1.7 x 102 g-1 to 1.3 x 103 g-1. The positive correlation between thrombocyte number and Lactobacillus spp. number in faecal fluid (r = 0, 84 ; p<0, 05) and blood glucose concentration and Lactobacillus spp. number (r = 0, 64 ; p<0, 05) may provide valuable information regarding the efficacy of treatment in dog. In conclusion, the increase of total Lactobacillus sp. in feaceal fluid and clinical improvement of dog compared before and after the treatment with Lactobacillus acidophilus LA5 and Bifidobacterium lactis BB12 reflects the positive response of supplemented probiotic strains in the intestine of dog, although for the achievement of optimal effect the persistence of intestinal microbiota after the treatment should be followed.
