Sažetak
Political and social environment and support from governmental level as well as from private capital is of a high importance for successful electrification projects. The paper describes the electrification process on the area of today’ s Republic of Croatia and Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), focusing on the time period from basically the beginnings of electrification up to the Second World War. Within it two time frames are analysed: beginnings of electrification under Austria-Hungary (1884-1918) and two decades between two world wars. Although the electrification started and initially developed basically in the same way as in the rest of Middle and Western Europe, after the First World War two very different outcomes on the studied territory evolved, as a direct consequence of different political and social conditions.
