Sažetak
This research presents prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the population of the Baranja region, with the purpose of studying its incidence, connection to geographic area in which those inhabitants live, regarding the age and gender, as well as regarding the prevalence of certain constituent parts of the syndrome. It has been established that the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the sample of adult inhabitants of the Baranja region (standardized for age group), assessed by means of body mass index (BMI), for male respondents 34, 95%, for female respondents 42, 4% and on average- 39, 95%. The assessment of prevalence for specific constituent parts of the metabolic syndrome shows different prevalence of specific constituent parts in male and female respondents, as well among different regions. Since the inhabitants of the Baranja region have one of the highest metabolic syndrome prevalences, they are exposed/subjected to high risk for developing cardiovascular and kidney diseases, as well as Type II Diabetes mellitus.
