Sažetak
In the paper, operationalized approach to the building of computer aided information system and database regarding medical information system (Med_IS® ; ) intended for outpatient and inpatient care of population in hospital, clinical, public dispensary and rehabilitation institutions included in Republic of Croatia health care system is described. In all phases of information system building engineering and information methodics, knowledge and skills collected over years under complete respect for the existing standards in data processing and display (sick people, patients, medical staff, medium medical personnel, events, processes, illnesses, injuries, means, medicines, interventions, locations, time characteristics, rule books, conventions, registers, instructions, reports, statistics, … ) in medical and health care environment, as well as in their business systems, have been used. The medical information system is intended for direct use on the reception desk of a health care institution, organized in any possible way, in medical clinics, specialized departments, surgery tracts, laboratories, and everywhere where a doctor is receiving and taking care about his patients or other medical personnel is in the function of other routine department and office reporting, statistical or filing jobs. The Med_IS® ; information system supports, ensures and efficaciously and user-friendly resolves the existing administrative duties for personnel, operators and management as regards a direct support to generating of input and output documentation, as well as a large number of different, statistical reports, by type and shape, by place and time. The system was designed and developed as a multi-layer application. It can be installed on a single-user PC configuration, operate in a server/user environment, and a Web version (Intranet and Internet) also exists. Special attention was also directed to reliability in the use of database (robust and stable relation database with internal procedures and triggers), as well as user friendly interface in Windows environment. Various operating systems and a large number of machine platforms are supported. The Med_IS® ; database uses a large number of public catalogues and databases and in a direct and indirect manner, quantifiably and unquantifiably, improves medical care in general and specialized health care institutions.
