Sažetak
INTRODUCTION: Radiographic lung examination make 1/3 of all conventional radiologic checks, which contributes with about 80-85% of all pediatric radiological examinations. As examinations start at youngest age and children are the most radio-vulnerable population, our wish was to determine the exposure dose on children during this conventional radiological treatment. This is also important because of the necessity of repeated radiograms and the exposure of the adjacent organs as the thyroid gland, the bone marrow or even the gonads. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The 7 examined children were from 3 moths to 3 years of age, using a BABY-FIX or sitting child, on the Shimatzu x-ray machine, with TLD (thermoluminescent dosimeters), with thyroid and gonad protection. RESULTS:The entrance surface doses (ESD), on back, chest, thyroid, right armpit, right eye and gonads, which we have determined during one examination were significantly lower than the doses that might cause somatic or genetic harm or damage. CONCLUSION:Because of the well-known radio-biological rule of grater sensitivity of children to x-rays, it is necessary to pay special attention to their protection, which is achieved in cases when radiograms are performed only if detailed history is provided, when clinical and lab test have been done, with quality radiological equipment, by well educated staff and with an individual approach to every child. The dominant principle when ordering an x-ray exam of a child should be ALARA (as low as reasonably achievabl
