Sažetak
BEHAVIORAL PATTERN OF OBESE AND OVERWEIGHT SCHOOLCHILDREN Vesna Jureša, A. Juriša, D. Petrović Medical School University of Zagreb, Croatia OBJECTIVES: The goal was to determine nutritional and behavioural differences in obese, overweight and normaly nutritioned children attending 1st grade elementary school. METHODS: Participants were 3000 children (1000 respondents each age) attending 1st and 8th grade primary school and 3rd grade secondary school. In order to ensure a good representativity of the sample, 40 primary schools were stratified by settlements population size in five groups and 20 secondary schools were stratified by type of school in three groups. Questionnaire containing questions relevant to cardiovascular disease (nutrition habits, smoking, physical activity, family and personal health history, ) was administreted to all students, 8th and 3rd grade students completed the questionnaire themselves and for 1st grade students the questionnaire completed their parents. We measured height, weight(BMI) and blood pressure. Participants were distributed in three groups by BMI(“ Cole” standards): normaly nutritioned (NOR), overweight (OV), obesity (OB). RESULTS:There were 960 participants, age 6, 5-7, 5, 48, 6% girls and 52, 4%boys. overweight are 127 (13, 2%) and obese are 73 (7, 6%). Questiones regarding nutrition (meals number, fruits, vegetables, meat, milk, sugar, sweets, fast food consummation) showed that overweight and obese have less meals per day, eat less fruits. They eat fast food five and more times per week, which is statistic significant difference (p=0, 0009), also they spend more time using computer, also statistic significant difference (p=0, 0039), there is no such difference for TV viewing. There is statistic significant difference for questiones regarding cough (p=0, 0066), colds (p=0, 0002) and “ heart and circulatory problems” (p=0, 006). CONCLUSION: Regarding nutritional and behavioral differences among overweight, obese and normal nutritioned, prevention programs should include parents in order to eliminate bad habits, primary fast food consumation and computer using.
