Sažetak
The aim of this study was to identify and analyze changes in the use of antihypertensive drugs in Croatia from 2001 to 2005. Drugs utilization was presented in defined daily doses/1000 inhabitants/day. During the five-year study period total cardiovascular drugs utilization increased 64.65%. A group of drugs acting on the renin angiotensin aldosterone system had the largest but steady share around 32%. Inside this group, the utilization and shares of angiotensin II antagonists and the combination of ACE inhibitors and diuretics increased, while the share of plain ACE inhibitors decreased. The use of plain diuretics increased and the use of nifedipine decreased. The most frequently used antihypertensives were amlodipine, lisinopril and lisinopril+hydrochlorothiazide. In conclusion, the utilization of antihypertensives in Croatia increased considerably due to changes in health insurance law.
