Sažetak
This paper is the result of an investigation into the English language needs for special purposes at the Polytechnic of Požega. The three main goals of the research were to: (1) identify students' attitudes and motivation for learning the English language, (2) determine how students graded their own competence in particular skills in the academic and professional domains, and (3) analyse students' attitudes towards the course content. The study is based on a questionnaire involving 53 first- year students of Administrative study. The paper describes the research, analyses students' attitudes towards the importance of learning and using English, and reports on the specific needs of students. Finally, the paper gives an insight into students' attitudes towards the course content that will serve as a useful guideline in developing new teaching materials for the English language course.
