Sažetak
Introduction: Various methods and different anatomical landmarks are advocated to aid in correct occlusal plane orientation during removable denture procedures, still none of them being completely accurate and satisfactory. Purpose: The aim was to test if the plane between the incisive papilla and the hamular notches (IP-HN) can be helpful in reconstruction of the occlusal plane. Method and Materials: Eighty (80) subjects (46 females, 34 males, mean age 24 years, all natural teeth and Angle Class I) were selected. The alginate impressions were obtained and the measurements were made on the models poured in the hard stone and mounted in the S.A.M. 2 “ P” articulator through the quick-mounting face bow transfer. Different parameters were transferred to the paper (calibrated in mm) where the following angles were drawn and measured: the angle between the occlusal plane and the articulator's horizontal plane (OP: AHP), as well as the angle between incisive papilla-hamular notches and the articulator's horizontal plane (IP-HN: AHP). The significance of the differences between the planes was tested by paired t test (p<0.05). Results: The mean value for the OP: AHP angle was 12.720 (± 5.00) and the mean value for the IP-HN: AHP was 13.060 (± 5.050). The mean difference between the planes was 0.3460 (± 1.90) and there was no significant differences (t = 1.59, p = 0.112 ; NS). Conclusion: The plane IP-HN: AHP has the same inclination as the plane OP-AHP (p>0.05). As incisive papilla and hamular notches are stable landmarks we strongly advocate using the IP-HN plane for the occlusal plane reconstruction.
