Sažetak
This paper presents the results of an extensive literature review conducted with an aim to inform the supply chain ontology development process. In respect to this aim three objectives are further set: (1) review the literature that deals with general ontology research outside the philosophy ; (2) review the ontology development methodologies ; and (3) review the supply chain ontology models. The whole paper has then been divided into four major parts. The first part is an introduction and it sets the stage for the text that follows while the second part presents the strategy and approach used in the review of literature. The third part is the core of the review and its most relevant part. It is further divided into three sections corresponding to three objectives set above. The first section tries to build an argument on why we should perceive conceptualization as very similar to the notion of scientific paradigm as introduced in the history and philosophy of science literature. Recently, conceptualization gained its currency in the ontology literature and is very important for the ontology development since ontology always indirectly commits to a certain conceptualization. Unfortunately, the analogy between conceptualization and scientific paradigm comes inherently with some issues. These issues together with their implications for the ontology development process are presented next. At the end of this section three propositions which may be helpful for resolving the identified issues are introduced. By building on the findings of this section the second and third sections review the ontology development methodologies and supply chain ontology models respectively. The final or fourth part of this work summarizes all the major findings and gaps from the previous part which can then used to inform the supply chain ontology development process.
