Sažetak
The ability of extracellular stimuli to modulate innate immunity via activation of regulatory T (Tregs) and natural killer T (NKT) cells was not well understood. The immune system's capacity to distinguish between innocuous and harmful foreign antigens is controlled by mechanisms of central and peripheral tolerance. Mechanisms of peripheral tolerance involve the induction of cell death or the development of a no responsive state (anergy) of T cells. Tregs have active suppression mode and may induce peripheral tolerance. In this study, we attempted to analyze the characteristics of human Tregs and NKT cells, by phenotypic analysis of peripheral blood cells of inhabitants leaving near gasoline industry. Our data have shown that the chronic inhalation exposure increases the percentage of Tregs and NKT cells, which may contribute to the new therapeutic approach of environmental diseases.
