Sažetak
The article presents and discusses the results of the empirical analysis of science-industry cooperation in Croatia. The main tasks of the analysis were: /1/ to identify the intensity of cooperation between industry and various types of research organizations, /2/ the nature of this cooperation and /3/ main motives and obstacles as perceived by R&D institutions. The main purpose of this work was to prepare a theoretical basis for fostering science-industry cooperation as part of an overall science and technology policy. The intensity of cooperation was measured by the amount of income earned for contract researches by R&D institutions with industry compared to the amount earned from other resources. The analysis confirmed that science-industry cooperation in Croatia is weak and that there are serious obstacles on both sides: industry demonstrated the lack of interest in using R&D results and investment in R&D sector, while R&D sector suffers from the lack of knowledge and incentives for meeting industrial needs. Having in mind the role of R&D in modern economies, the role of the government in Croatia is to create the appropriate environment and stimulative measures for more efficient science-industry cooperation.
