Sažetak
Three initial teacher education models for teachers of FLs to YLs are currently in existence in Croatia. The first leads to the FL specialist teacher, the second to a homeroom teacher with added proficiency in the FL, while the third one – introduced two years ago as part of the Bologna process reform – is to produce a new profile of FL teachers to YLs that is hoped to rectify the shortcomings of the first two. Each model will be presented, and their main characteristics will be commented on. Content of YL teacher education curricula, time and ECTS credits alotment to different areas in the curricula as well as organisational aspects will be described. Reactions of already qualified teachers as well as student teachers to these different paths to acquiring appropriate initial YL teacher education will be described, and first experiences with the new programmes presented.
