Sažetak
Conveniently located and of adequate capacity park-and-ride facilities have the potential to facilitate intermodal trips and increase transit ridership. Transportation planners need to include these facilities in their analysis of transportation networks to determine the impact of different policies and operational and pricing decisions on all modes that serve a corridor or a region. Typically, commuters start their trips from low density, transit poor suburbs using private cars and then switch to transit through park-and-ride facilities, to reach their final destination without having to encounter major delays due to congestion on highways. This paper presents a practical GIS based tool, which has the ability to model intermodal trips by considering the problem of location, utilization, and management of park-and-ride facilities. The tool is used to model the I-80 corridor in north New Jersey. Impacts of the decisions regarding the location of park-and-ride facilities are presented via two case studies.
