Sažetak
One hundered and sixteen strains of bacteria Salmonella enteritidis isolated in Croatia in course of 1996-1997 were investigated. The origin of strains isolated were from human (faeces) or chickens (organs, meat, eggs, or products) in case of simultaneous appearence of infection in human and chickens. Out of 109 strains (94.0%), nine different phage types were identified (9a, 8, 2, 4, 7, 23, 12, 20a and 11a), and 6.0% of strains remain of unknown phage type. Resistance to drugs was recognised in 29 out of 59 strains investigated, most often to doxycycline and oxytetracycline. Plasmid profiles were determined by electrophoresis for these drug resistant strains. By systematic monitoring of biologic patterns of strains of Salmonella enteritidis we are improving the knpwledge about the modes of its spread, especially about ways of infection of human from infected poultry. This information will make control of salmonella infections in human and poultry more efficacious.
