Sažetak
Tryptophol glucoside (indole-3-ethyl beta-D-glucopyranoside) was synthesized by Koenigs-Knorr condensation of indole-3-ethanol with 2, 3, 4, 6-tetra-O-acetyl-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl bromide followed by deacetylation. The product was identical to a tryptamine and tryptophol metabolite previously isolated from pea seedlings, as established by chromatographic methods and mass spectrometry (as the fully acetylated derivatives). The synthetic glucoside was partially cleaved when supplied to pea seedlings. The tryptophol formed in this way was further converted to indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), as confirmed by its growth-promoting activity in the pea-stem straight-growth test.
