Sažetak
The purpose of the study was to create a seamless model using Euro-BES software and a PDA to collect raw game statistics needed to evaluate player performance. The primary function of the Euro-BES model is to give coaches and players a means to measure the performance aspects of the game that are often overlooked because coaches and players do not have an objective tool to measure their value to the player and therefore to the team. For the coach to effectively improve team and individual performance, he/she must have a valid and reliable means to observe, measure, and analyze player performance. The Euro-BES model grades player performance in relationship to position-of-play and minutes-played under game conditions. The model grades nine game related performance factors (2FG%, 3FG%, FT%, REB, PF, AST, TO, BLK, and STL). The model based on “ normal probability theory” standardizes raw game scores, generates grades for each performance factor, and then produces an overall grade for each game and for season- to-date scores. Grades are produced on a scale ranging from 0.0-to-4.0 with a mean of 2.0. Performance norms for the Euro-BES model were established from data collected form the 2004- 05 and 2005-06 EuroLeague seasons. The EuroLeague is the top professional league in Europe comprised of (n=24) teams. Norms were established on (n=463) players representing 73% of the total population of the league over the two seasons. Performance norms were established for nine positions-of-play that include (PG, OG, SF, PF, C, and the “ swing” positions of, PG-OG, OG-SF, SF-PF, and PF-C). To create a seamless model that collects raw game statistics that can be downloaded directly to the Euro-BES software, a PDA powered by TurboStats software was incorporated into the model. The intuitive live game data collection software is able to produce the required raw game scores needed for Euro-BES evaluations. Once downloaded, the Euro-BES and TurboStats software can generate a variety of evaluative reports on players and for the team.
