Sažetak
The paper deals with this present condition in forest management in the Republic of Croatia with a special reference to forests managed by a company "Croatian Forests" Ltd. Zagreb, to aims, tasks and method of state-owned forest management, to condition and previous range of numbers of significant mechanised devices of forest harvesting. Also, the way and activities by which “ Croatian Forests” Ltd. in cooperation with the Forestry Faculty of the University in Zagreb influence the direction of machine and technology development is described, as well as original solutions for particularly demanding conditions of natural method of forest management. Out of the total area of forest and forest land in the Republic of Croatia state owns 75%, i.e. 2, 018, 987 ha managed by "Croatian Forests" Ltd. More than 50% of forest management works are performed by own production forces and means of "Croatian Forests" Ltd. Therefore, the development of machines and technologies is a very significant precondition for improving the business success in complex terrain conditions, especially presented by specifics in management method. In this, four main measures in demands for suitability can be singled out, i.e. suitabilities of technical-technological solutions:  Environmental suitability  Efficiency  Safety  Ergonomic suitability. These measures have been partly formed by a known regulations of contemporary international standards, applicable to conditions in the Republic of Croatia and partly by the particularity of the management conditions. The influence of “ Croatian Forests” on meeting the mentioned demands and direct participation in the development of suitable technical-technological solutions for certain conditions, has been shown on examples of development of two types of skidders and tractor equipage for lowland forest thinning. These demands are met through tasks of the scientific-research work projects and cooperation with the Forestry Faculty of the University in Zagreb and by placing demands and cooperation with domestic manufacturers of machines and equipment.
