Sažetak
In 2006, the Research and Training Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from Zagreb conducted research on knowledge and attitudes about democracy and human rights on 1.350 university students from Zagreb and Rijeka in the context of a three-year scientific project on Learning Human Rights at the University which was financially supported by the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport. This paper focuses on a small portion of the results. It contains the analysis of the University of Zagreb students’ attitudes towards (un)desirability of Croatian integration into the European Union and on the reasons that underlie their positions. The analysis is than extended to include correlations, in the one hand, between attitudes and knowledge on democracy, human rights and citizens' rights in international, European and national context and, in the other hand, between attitudes and some socio-demographic characteristics of the students. The results are then compared to the findings of similar studies conducted in Croatia and abroad and are, in the end, commented in the light of two theoretical approaches to (un)desirability of European integration processes in the countries of transition.
