Sažetak
The verbotonal method is originated and developed as a part of verbotonal researches in the field of verbal cormnunication during the last five decades. It is applied in the field of hearing and speech pathology including a number of diagnostic and rehabilitation procedures based on the study of how the brain perceives speech trough the hearing and other spatioception senses.
The technical bases is verbotonal equipment that has the ability to transmit low frequencies, including infra-sound, and select an individual optimal hearing field adapted to each hearing impaired person.
In the rehabilitation of listening and speech the main principle is to start from the optimal capatibilities of the person where auditory and body pathways are basis of rehabilitation.
Vibrotactile phase is initial stage in the rehabilitation of listening and development of speech, implemented in prelingual hearing impaired children. Speech is transmited by the SUVAG device, vibrator and the vibrating board and percives through childs vibrotactil sense. This way, by body-somatosensory pathway and by using low frequencies that transmit rhythm and intonation, deaf child begins to percive and produce the sounds of human speech.
Vibrotactile phase, the first phase in verbotonal rehabilitation, is demonstrated with group of deaf children treated in the Polyclinic SUVAG Zagreb.
