Sažetak
Adria, the largest lithospheric fragment in Central mediterraneum is the foreland of the surrounding mobile belts, the Apennines, The Southern Alps and the Dinarides. Although stable Adria plays a key role in the tectonic history of the region, its displacements were poorly known from paleomagnetic data. recently, new paleomagnetic results were obtained from two areas belonging to stable Adria. These are stable Istria and Adige embayement. From, Istria extremely weak platform carbonates of Tithonian to Eocene age were studied, while from the Adige embayement the research was focused on Scaglia Rossa of the Late Cretaceous age and on the Late Eocene sediments. Coeval results from the two areas are characterized by practicaly coinciding declination and 10 degree shallower inclinations of the Scaglia Rossa than in the coeval platform carbonates from Istria. The reason is that the high degree of compaction caused inclination shallowing in Scaglia Rossa. Nevertheless, the close agreement between coeval declinations from the two areas allow to conclude that the Tithonian-Eocene segment of the apparent polar wander curve for Adria is displaced with respect to Africa. The relative positions of the two curves suggest two rotations of Adria, with respect to Africa: the first, a slight clockwise, must have taken place in the latest Cretaceous, while the second, a counter-clockwise rotation is of post-Eocene age.
