Sažetak
Industrial revolution has led to problem of environmental pollution on the worldwide scale which represents potential threat to human health and affects the quality of life. In order to eliminate negative influences on the environment and to improve the quality of life, new technologies are developed in accordance with sustainable development policy. However, not all countries are financially capable of developing new and abandoning old technologies, but consequences of past anthropogenic activities are still present and it is necessary to reduce them. Solution of stated problems is application of bioremediation. Bioremediation is technology which allows degradation or transformation to innocuous substances of various environmental contaminats using biological activity of microorganisms or plants. This technology is successfully applied in many european countries and there are also research projects in Croatia. There is no doubt that bioremediation has great potential for becoming public acceptable future technology for environmental recovery.
