Sažetak
Professional stress is a socio-psychological category often explored in contemporary social sciences. It is also a frequent expirience for professionals in professions that require a high level of psycho-physical and emotional engagement. This paper attempts to discuss external reasons for professional stress and burn-out syndrome of prison staff working in penal treatment, according to numerous recent researches. The paper’ s goal is to explore reasons for professional stress as well as its influence on the professional work. It is also important to shed light on emotional conditions of professionals exposed to daily stresfull situations. In Croatia, scientific project entitled "Emotional well-being and burn-out among prison staff” it is the first project which deals with this problems.
