Sažetak
Communication in social environment realized by speech demands a totality of physiological and psychological functionally well organized capacities. Stuttering represents an oscillation and instability in speech realization. In the SUVAG Polyclinic the therapy of stuttering is carried out according to the verbotonal method, which is a part of the Verbotonal System established by Prof. Petar Guberina, Ph.D. The methodical procedures of the Verbotonal System are used in diagnostics and auditory rehabilitation of speech and in therapy of speech disorders. At the core of the Verbotonal Method are “ the values of spoken language” (intonation, intensity, tempo of sentence, pause, mimic, gesture and context) and the therapy procedures includes all of them in different combinations. Speech is always a part of a social context. It needs verbal and nonverbal stimulations to be realized in its full communicative function. Well used speech in space and in situation stimulates communication, facilitates integration and enables expression of feelings. For that reason the complex therapy at the SUVAG Polyclinic is performed by different specialists: a speech pathologist, a speech pathologist who functions as well as a body movement therapist and a psychologist. For each child the team finds the optimal relation of therapy procedures – the rehabilitation optimal, which is related to the type and number of impairments as well as the age of a patient. This type of therapy is applied to children of preschool age.
