Sažetak
Sat-1 is the Na+-independent anion exchanger with 12 transmembrane domains and 3 potential glycosylation sites. Functionally, it exchanges sulfate for oxalate or bicarbonate. In rats, the protein has been localized to the basolateral membrane of proximal tubule S1, S2 and S3 segments, and to the sinusoidal membrane of liver cells. Gender differences were recently observed for the expression of Sat-1 mRNA in the rat kidney using the microarray chip (Sabolić et al., Eur. J. Physiol. 455: 397-429, 2007) ; the expression in males was 50% higher then in females. The aim of the present study was to verify gender differences in the expression of Sat-1 protein in the rat kidney, and to test if similar phenomenon exists in the liver.
