This paper discusses sweet cherry (Prunus avium) fruit growth and the internal and external factors that affect it (i.e. assimilate availability, carbohydrate reserves, plant nutrients, water potential, growth regulators, light and temperature), as well as carbohydrate accumulation and the internal and external factors affecting it (growth regulators, plant nutrients, flowering date, yield, light and temperature). A brief section is provided for the enzymatic analysis of sugar.
