Sažetak
Titanium alloys have been widely used in many fields due to their very high specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance and good workability. Extensively investigations of these alloys were performed with goal to achieve improved or novel properties and facilitate new applications. In this paper effect of composition on the structure, hardness and corrosion resistance of the as-cast Ti-Co-Cr alloys in the Ti-rich corner have been studied. The alloys were prepared by arc melting the pure metals (99, 99%) in a laboratory argon arc-furnace and cast in the same equipment by means of specially constructed copper anode, which has served as the caasting mould. Optical microscopy show that most of as- cast samples have similar two-phases dendritic solidification microstructure with some difference in the morphology of the dendritic phase. Quantitative metallography reveals that the percentage of dendritic phase increases with cobalt content. Using XRD analysis it has been established the presence of betha- Ti solid solution in some near single phase samples. Other samples contain two phases which were identified as alpha- Ti solid solution and CoTi2 intermetallic. Hardness measurtements show that hardness increases with the content of dendritic phase. The corrosion resistance of alloys was determined on the basis of Epit values using cyclic potentiostatic polarization tests. All experimental alloys reveal prominent corrosion characteristics because of the high amount of titanium. This investigation show that Ti-Co-Cr alloys with higher titanium content and betha- type structure can be good candidates for biomedical applications.
