Sažetak
The main aim of this study was to determine sex differences in the use of self-promotion as a self-presentation tactic. An additional aim was to examine the relative contribution of basic personality traits, self-esteem, self-monitoring and social evaluation concerns in explaining using self-promotion tactics by men and women. Research was carried out on 447 female and 242 male high school and university students, who completed several paper-pencil measures which include: Self-presentation tactics inventory, Big five inventory, Self-esteem scale, Revised Self-monitoring scale, Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale. As expected, results show that men were more likely to use a tactics of self-promotion than women. Analyzed personality traits had better predictive strength for explanation of men’ s self-promotion than of women’ s use of self-promotion. The results demonstrated that the patterns of differences can be identified in explaining using self-promotion as a self-presentation tactic in men and women, where in the case of women it is necessary to take in account additional factors to better understand women's self-promotion.
