Sažetak
The recording of event-related potentials (ERPs) due to its properties has proven to be a valuable method for the investigation of language processing. Therefore, nowadays there is it growing body or research trying to clarify sentence processing through its underlying mechanism using ERPs. The obtained data have provided robust evidence· ; that different aspects of sentence processing elicit different electrophysiological pattern or activation e.g. the Left Anterior Negativity LAN and the P600 component are elicited during processing sentences with syntactic violation. While the N400 component is related to processing of sentences with SC111UntH’ violation. Although there is still a debate about the precise functional interpretation of the ERP components, the P600 is also related as an indicator or extra processing cost involved during sentence processing. So far in Croatia there was only a pilot-study which aim was to elicit the P600 component as an indicator of syntactic violation processing by using ungrammatical sentences (*Ova knjiga je velik, - This book (FEM.SING.) is big (MASC)). The aim of this study is to investigate processing cost during sentence comprehension. Furthermore, another aim is lo detect if the P600 component can be viewed as a good indicator of’ the amount or processing cost employed during sentence processing. The sentences used for this study are a set of correct grammatical sentences with word order manipulated in order to obtain syntactic ambiguity and disambiguity. The assumption is that sentences with syntactic ambiguity arc more costly to process than sentences with syntactic disambiguity.
