Sažetak
The role of nonlinear neurodynamics in traumatic coma is not known. Chaotic EEG was not observed in traumatic coma. The aim of this study was to detect the chaotic electroencephalogram in patients with severe brain injury and traumatic coma. Eight patients with closed severe head injuries and traumatic coma were treated in neurosurgical intensive care unit NICU. Glasgow Coma Scale score was 8. All patients were mechanically ventilated with intraparenchymal intracranial pressure monitoring. Patients were receiving intravenously fentanyl 0, 05 mg/h for analgesia, midazolam 5 mg/h for sedation and pancuronium O, l mg/kg for muscular paralysis. All patients were in mild hyperventilation to partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide PaC02 == 3.5 – 4.5 kPa. Electroencephalogram was recorded in the morning on the second day of treatment from lO:OO to lO:15 using four channels: Cz- C3, Cz – C4, Cz – TS, Cz – T6 and Fz as ground international 10-20 system. Sampling rate was 200 Hz with 50 uV scale. All the data were stored in personal computer and analyzed with non-commercial in home made software. Methods of electroencephalogram analysis were: construction of phase space with time delay, Fourier spectral analysis, correlation dimension estimation, Lyapunov maximal exponent estimation and recurrence plot analysis.
