Sažetak
The six incidents that were described were patients with first and second degree burns, located under peripheral nerves stimulating electrodes. Those events were happened during intraoperative monitoring of the evoked potentials. Precise and careful testing of all 18 monopolar cauterizing devices used in the operating theaters revealed that one of them had radiofrequency leakage current of 287 mA in coagulation 'pin point' mode and 442 mA in the coagulation 'spray' mode. This was 2.5 to 3 times above safety limits. This phenomenon of the RF current leaking to the ground trough the connecting cables attached to the patients producing skin lesion has not been widely described in the literature dealing with intraoperative monitoring of the evoked potentials. Such cases of RF current leaks trough the cables connecting patient to the various measuring instruments in the operating room could be possible cause for unresolved source of intraoperatively heart fibrillation. We suggested a way of protection and prevention of these incidents.
