Sažetak
Some new N-aryl-3-methyl-4-hydroxy-2-quinolones (1-4) were prepared by the reaction of corresponding diphenylamines with diethylmethymalonate. Reaction of diethylmethymalonate with substituted diphenylamines gave compounds 5 and 6. As result of restricted rotation about C-N bond, the ground state of sterically hindered N-aryl-2-quinolones 1-6 is not planar and molecules are chiral. The compounds were prepared with the intention to separate enantiomers and to determine the barriers to partial rotation about C-N bond.
