Sažetak
Various types of hollow dies are available for production of hollow sections. The selection of the die type and the die geometry is a difficult task for each die designer. This paper discuses our experience in design of the hollow extrusion dies that are used for manufacturing thin-walled, hollow aluminum sections. It will show the influence of the die layout, shape of the channels and welding chambers on metal flow, and dimensions of the extruded thin-walled, hollow sections. A procedure for determining the die opening dimensions is also shown. It is based on calculation of the die shrink allowance and the die deflection allowance, which are considered as a function of the working conditions. Investigations were conducted on the extrusion of AlMgSi0.5 (6063) aluminum hollow sections with different hollow die design in real plant conditions. The result of the investigations could be useful for industrial application.
