Sažetak
One of the numerous complications which could occur in babesiosis of dogs is the disturbance in coagulation system. Protein C pathway is one of the three major anticoagulant mechanisms, and its activity was investigated in dogs with babesiosis, before and after therapy. We determinated the decrease of protein C activity 5th and 10th day of the measurement period, which could be the consequence of inflammatory cytokines releasing, reduced synthesis in the liver or increased erythropoietin production. Fourther investigation will be required to determine the role of protein C activity in pathogenesis of babesiosis of dogs.
