Sažetak
Objective:Croatian Oncological Society (Croatian Medical Association) in cooperation with KONTRAfilm Ltd. produced the educational/documentary film "The Tropic of Cancer?" The main objective of this project is public education on all smoking related subjects, and dealing with tobacco abuse on prevention as well as therapeutic level. Methods:"The Tropic of Cancer" is conceived as a combination of propaganda and documentary film (duration-20 min). After my idea und under my control the script for this movie is written and developed by Nikola Ivanda and Jakša Boric (screen writter and producer). Results:Our intention with this movie, backed up by continuous PR campaign, is to influence the collective conscience of Croatian citizens and raise the awareness of smoking as an extremely negative, destructible social phenomenon. At the same time, "The Tropic of Cancer"will represent valuable educational material, for it includes the latest scientific and statistical information on threats, prevention and treatment of tobacco addiction and smoking related diseases. Also, our wish is to reopen some of the important psychological and sociological questions regarding personal motives of smokers. "The Tropic of Cancer" addresses in the first place the young audience, which is mostly targeted by advertising campaigns of tobacco manufacturers, and therefore represents the most endangered social group when it comes to developing of smoking habit. The film covers three intimate stories of patients suffering from the heaviest smoking related diseases ; Also, as a part of this project, we produced an advertising campaign consisting of three TV spots (duration: 30'') featuring real patients and their stories.
