Sažetak
Neuroblastoma is the most frequent solid tumor occuring in children, comprising 7-10 % all children's tumors. In this work we evaluated the diagnostic contribution of cytological possibilities in the diagnosis of neuroblastoma in children, during 10-year period. Using FNA biopsy, exfoliative or im-print method ( of deep pediatric lesion, ascites, pleural drain or intraoperative material ), we diagnosed neuroblastoma, ganglioneuroblastoma or ganglionuroma in 40 children in the Children's Hospital Zagreb. The results obtained were compared to the results of histopathologic diagnosis, immunocytochemistry analysis and scintiscana. In more than 50% of children with neuroblastoma in this study we detected metastases ba one of the cytologic methods. Correlation of the results obtained with PHD was markedly high, correlation with immunocytochemistry results was very good, and immunocytochemistry also had an important role especially in differential diagnosis of small round cell malignancies of childhood. Correlation in ratio to scintiscans was also satisfactory. In conclusion, FNA biopsy, exfoliative an im-print method cytological analyses can be an accurate, inexpensive and radid diagnostic procedure. Sometimes cytological analyses are the only possible diagnostic methods for diagnosing malignant disease in children, and thus neuroblastoma. Or results obtained justify the use of cytologic methods, which could be used more frequently when diagnosing neuroblastoma in children.
