Sažetak
The problem of coordination, as well as negative political influences, is often mentioned as the main problem of local and regional development. However, it is not entirely clear, what coordination actually means, what should be coordinated and how? The main goal of this research paper is to explain coordination in the context of regional development policy and multilevel governance. Therefore, a model for scientific evaluation and determination of the importance and impacts that a coordinated and integrative regional development policy can have on initiating endogenous development will be presented. The coordination model is tested on four cases in Croatia on national, regional, sub-regional and local level, particularly in the context of the future integration into the European Union. The results indicate that the model is conceptually applicable also in other countries and that it contributes to a better understanding of inter- as well as the intra-institutional relationships in managing regional development.
