Sažetak
Polyphenolic/flavonoid compounds are widely distributed in the plant kingdom and display a variety of biological activities, including chemoprevention and growth inhibition of tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lyophilized water extract of Causalis platycarpos L. (CPL) on metastatic potential of a transplantable colon carcinoma (TCC) of spontaneous origin in Y59 rat. Liver metastases were generated by 103 tumor cells injected into portal vein. CPL was disolved in water and given intraperitonealy to groups of rats at 12, 6 and 3 days before or at days 2, 5 and 10 after tumor cell inoculation. Treatment doses contained 10, 50 or 100 mg/kg lyophilized pouder of CPL body weight. Number of liver metastases present on the surface of liver lobes was determined 21 days after tumor cell inoculation. A significant reduction of liver metastases was found in animals receiving preventive treatment ; antimetastatic efficacy showed to be dose related phenomenon. In animals receiving curative treatment no significant effect on liver metastasis was observed. Treatment of animals increased the CD8 population of limphocyte and NK activity in peripheral blood. Peritoneal macrophages spreading activity and their citotoxicity to tumor cells in vitro was also incresed. It is likely that part of the antimetastatic efficacy of CPL was due to increased macrophages activity and through other immunomodulating properties of CPL.
