Sažetak
The present knowledge of programmed cell death as a general biologic strategy, genetically preserved through the evolution of animals and of apoptosis as one of executive modes of the program, is presented.Apoptotic death of the neurons and perhaps also of the glia cells has been recognized in many neurologic diseases.Animal experiments as well as initial clinical pharmacologic studies give rise to hope that therapeutic measures in terms of generalized or target specific antiapoptotic strategy might become available in the near future.
