Sažetak
Archaeological investigations and conservation on the islands of Brioni has been going on for more than hundred years. Based on the available finds of pottery, glass, metal, coins and roof tiles, we try to explain the phases of building usage and decline, first of the villa rustica and then of the maritime villa in the bay of Verige. The building of the villa rustica is dated by the rooftiles with the stamp of PANSAE VIBI - 50-40 B.C. The villa rustica was expanded into a maritime villa in the early first century A.D. and is dated by a terra sigillata bowl of a mid Augustan date. Further dating evidence is provided by the roof tiles and amphorae with the stamp of Laecanius, manufactured in the early first century, bronze coin of Claudius of A.D. 41 and lamps with signature Fortis - late 1st and 2 nd century. The underwater pottary and glass finds (underwater investigations 1987)dated in third century (thin-walled, light green blass cup or bulb with dark green decoration) ; in fourth century a fragment of African Red Slip Ware bowl with stamped decoration of palm leaves (sigillata chiara) ; in fifth-sixth century a fragment of a Phocaean Red Slip Ware bowl with stamped Greek cross. The underwater pottery finds in 8th and 9th centuries indicate the use of the site stillin the early medieval period.
