Sažetak
The European catfish, Silurus glanis L. becomes important aqua cultural fish in Croatia, and it is cultivated in extensive ponds in polyculture with carps. Development of digestive tract in Silurus glanis L. was studied with aim of improvement intensive fish production. Researches were carried on Silurus glanis larval stadium from 1-19 DPH. Main histological methods were used: HE, PAS, AB and TB. Yolk sac was present during first 5 days (1-5 DPH). During first 3 DPH there was no trace PAS and AB activity in digestive tract. Differentiation of digestive tract was started at 3-5 DPH. Oesophagus was positive on AB at 5 DPH, and PAS, TB after 7 DPH. Enterocytes start with differentiation at 5 DPH and after 11 DPH the intestine is full developed. Liver and pancreas development was studied too. The analysis of data obtained in this study suggest that after 5 DPH catfish larvae have morphologically complete digestive tract capable of ingesting, digesting and absorbing nutrients.
